Hindi movie: Satyagraha

This is a movie based on real incidents happened in India in the year of 2011. The story is inspired from the real life incidents but not a documentary. Though storyline is weak, the movie is a good attempt to create awareness about politics in youth. The excellent performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn are the back bones of the movie.
Retired school teacher Dwarka Anand (Amitabh Bachchan) is living in Ambikapur with his Son Akhilesh. Manav Raghavendra (Ajay Devgan) who is a school friend of Akhilesh visits him and also meets Dwaraka anand. Clashes happen between Manav and Dwaraka anand due to their differences in thoughts. Dwaraka Anand is a man with high moral values and very demanding of neat and clean characters from individuals. On the other hand Manav who is starting his business, realistic guy and has hunger for growth. Manav wants to succeed in business by hook or crook. The real story begins when Akhilesh dies in accident. The MP from Ambikapur Balram singh (Manoj Vajpayee) promises to give 25 Lakh Rs. to Akhilesh’s family. Akhilesh’s wife Sumitra (Amrita Rao) then has to visit collectors office for too many times in order to get the money. But she couldn’t make much progress for that matter when she refuses to bribe the authorized personnel in government office. Manav raghvendra comes to Ambikapur in order to help Akhilesh’s family. Dwaraka Anand slaps the collector when he couldn’t control his anger in his meeting with collector. Due to which police puts Dwaraka anand behind bars. Local leader Arjun singh (Arjun Rampal) and Manav try their best to bring Dwaraka Anand out of prison. Manav also calls his reporter friend Yasmin Ahmad (Kareena Kapoor) to rescue Dwaraka Anand.
Attempts to rescue Dwaraka Anand became national issue, due to involvement of media and social network. After Dwaraka anand is rescued from prison, the whole team of Manav, Arjun, Sumitra, Yasmin and Dwaraka anand decide to fight for the people from whole district of Ambikapur, by starting a revolution under name Jan Satyagraha. How the dirty politicians plan new strategies to supress the activities of Jan Satyagraha, how Manav strategises the every move of Jan Satyagraha, how in the end Dwaraka anand loses his life, how akhilesh’s death was a murder and not an accident, it is good to see all these aspects on screen.
Director Prakash Jha has tried his best to create an engaging screenplay out of a weak story, but he falters at places. Towards the end story seems to be wrapped up in hurry, with too many baseless things happening so fast. All the actors, especially Manoj Vajpayee has delievered excellent performance. It could have been much much better movie if the story was more strong and realistic.
Nevertheless, it is a one time watchable movie, for Prakash Jha’s attempt to create awareness about politics in youth.
