Marathi movie: Fandry

I felt really depressed and helpless after watching this movie. When I watched the trailers of this movie I thought this is one more stupid movie like recently released Marathi movie ‘Timepass’. But to my surprise, love of a young boy is not the center of the story but there is much more to it.
Story is about a young boy Jambuvant Kacharu Mane (Somnath Avghade) and his family and his love interest. It takes place in village Akolner, Maharashtra. Jambuvant aka jabya is very sincere in his studies and wants to learn desperately but his father Kacharu (Kishor Kadam) being poor guy wants his son to help him in his work and help his family survive. Jabya is silently in love with a girl from his class, who is of upper caste than his. Jabya stays outside the village with his family and his family has no fixed source of income. Being of lower caste, he and his family always gets the worst treatment from other villagers. Other characters in the film are Jabya’s 2 friends, pirya and Chankya (Nagraj Manjule), who are always helping Jabya in pursuing his love interest. Story is very interesting and keeps moving at right pace without viewer losing his interest. What happens with jabya, his family and his love interest is better seen in the movie itself.
Director Nagraj Manjule has done brilliant job. Movie silently sends a message through all its scenes and locations and dialogues, that how so called upper class in the society worships great people like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Savitribai Fule, Gadage Maharaj and others but in reality they don’t follow it even 1 percent. The climax in the movie disturbs and shocks the viewer completely. All the performances in the movie are top class. But Kishor Kadam and Somnath Avghade clearly stand out from the crowd.
Overall, don’t miss this heart touching beautiful movie.
