Movie: Out of the furnace

December 20, 2014

There is nothing special or different in this movie which makes me wonder why Christian Bale did a movie like this. May be he wanted to try something different, may he was bored of doing movies for bigger banners, renowned movie makers.

The story is about 2 brothers, Russell Baze (Christian Bale) and Rodney Baze (Casey Affleck). They are living in a short town and earning their livings somehow. Russell works in a factory and wants to get settled down in his life, get married to his girlfriend Lena (Zoe Saldana). Rodney is completely opposite to Russell, he has returned from wars in Iraq, been in military and wants to earn more money by fighting in matches illegally. Both the brothers love each other but destiny has its own way and it wants both of them to do things differently. Harlan Degroat (Woody Harrelson) is a drug addict and mafia of the town. What happens when both the brothers turn against Harlan is the rest of the story.

The story proceeds with a very slow pace and that is very tiring. The characters in the story also don’t develop much over the time. Performances of Christian Bale, Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson are very good but that doesn’t help the uninteresting plot and slow moving story. Director Scott Cooper has done strictly average job.

Overall, this movie has nothing new to offer, so watch it only if you must.

Movie: American Hustle

March 4, 2014

After so many days I watched and liked a con movie. Story is set in 70’s and said to be based on true rumors. This movie is a treat for movie lovers.
It is a story of how con man Irving Rosenfield (Christian Bale) and his partner Sydney (Amy Adams), get trapped into the web of FIB agent Richie Dimaso (Bradley Cooper) and what happens next with them. Story is also about love relations between Irving and his wife Rosalyn (Jeniffer Lawrence). It is also about another love triangle between Irving, Sydney and Richie. There are continuous ups and downs in the relationships between main characters of story.
Story is very well written and screenplay is damn good. Story is beautifully woven in funny and interesting incidents. All the performances are brilliant, especially by Christian Belle. He has really molded himself perfectly into the character. Jeremy Renner as Mayor polito is a short role but actor has done it sincerely. Guest appearance by Robert D’ Niro is a good surprise for his fans. Direction of David Russell is fantastic.
Overall, this is a must watch movie for crime, con movie lovers.

Movie : The Dark Knight

June 27, 2013

This is my all time favorite movie. The second part of Batman trilogy; which consists of ‘Batman begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.
The story revolves around the main villain Joker, played by late Heath Ledger, Gotham city’s new district attorney Harvey Dent, played by Aaron Eckhart and main character of the story of course Batman, played by Christian Bale.
Batman is unable to find out who Joker is and how to control him. He decides to take all the crime lords of city and not concentrate on Joker. Newly appointed DA is very aggressive in cleaning up the city by putting all the criminals behind bars. But Joker won’t let the Gotham citizens sleep with peace, he wants to create chaos. He doesn’t want the money, but wants to rule the city. He also very much wants to know who the batman really is? wants batman to remove his mask. The fight between Joker and Batman becomes very intense.
Batman, who is Bruce in real life, losts his love of life Rachel in one of the life taking accidents. Harvey’s face gets half burnt and he gets mad at Batman, due to belief that it all happened because of Batman. Harvey is also in love with Rachel and couldn’t handle the loss of Rachel too. Joker who is free to do anything with citizens of Gotham, plays mind games with them and also with locked criminals of the city. How Batman manages to catch Joker with the help from Lucious , played by Morgan Freeman, how Harvey dent turns from white knight of the Gotham to a revengeful guy. How new police commissioner Gordon and his family gets involved in all the act. How batman rises above all and gives away his stature for the sake of city. It is all best seen in the movie.
The screenplay, story, dialogues, dialogue delivery, action sequences, drama in the story, jokes everything is top notch. Written and directed by Christopher nolan, this movie should not be missed.
